Unique Query Insight

Track how many unique search terms each page ranks for and find new traffic opportunities

Problem:

GSC makes it difficult to track how many different keywords a single page is ranking for over time. The standard GSC interface does not provide a “Unique Query” count per page, nor does it show you exactly which keywords are “New” or “Lost” when comparing two different dates.

You are forced to manually export data and use complex spreadsheets just to see if your content is actually reaching more people.

Google Search Console (GSC) does not provide a “Unique Query” count as a standard metric. While you can see a list of keywords for a page, the default UI makes it difficult to track the total volume of unique queries a single URL ranks for over time.

There is no built-in way to instantly see a percentage growth in keyword reach or a specific list of “New” versus “Lost” queries when comparing two dates.

Consequences:

You cannot see if your content is growing in topical authority or if you are losing visibility for specific terms.

Without a clear view of “New Queries,” you might miss out on fresh search trends that your pages have already started to rank for, leaving you unable to update your content to capture that new traffic.

Solution:

Part 1: Unique Query On Each URL

The Unique Query Overview tracks the total number of unique keywords for each URL on your site. It includes charts that show daily growth trends, along with ‘Clicks per Query’ and ‘Impressions per Query’ metrics.

These help measure whether keyword expansion is driving real user engagement at the query level. Overall efficiency can be evaluated based on how many impressions and clicks each query generates.

Part 2: New / Lost Query – 2 Periods Comparison

New Query

The New Query Insight lets you compare two different time periods to see exactly how your search presence is growing. It shows a count of unique queries for every URL on your site.

Use this tool to find specific search queries that appeared in “Period 2” but weren’t there in “Period 1”. This makes it easy to identify your Unique Query Comparison and see exactly which new terms are starting to drive results.

  • The charts display the total number of new query per URL, enabling you to cross-filter between them and analyze the performance of each query at both the URL and query levels.
  • View a breakdown of new search queries on each page (URL) along with their impressions, clicks and average position to decide which specific terms need to be added to your on-page content for better rankings.

Lost Query

The Lost Query Insight allows you to compare two specific time periods to identify search terms that are no longer driving traffic to your site. It shows the count of unique lost queries for each URL on your site.

Use the “Lost Query Insight” to see exactly which search queries appeared in “Period 1” but were no longer present in “Period 2”, helping you to identify the Unique Query Comparison within a period of time.

  • The tables display the total number of lost query per URL, enabling you to cross-filter between them and analyze the performance of each query at both the URL and query levels.
  • View a breakdown of lost search queries on each page (URL) along with their impressions, clicks, and average position to decide which specific queries need to be added back to your on-page content for better rankings.
